Straight from Microsoft’s Scobleizer… his rules of the road for corporate bloggers

A week or so ago, I asked a handful of A-list bloggers to offer their top DO or DON’T for writing a business blog. I never heard back from Robert Scoble, Microsoft’s most famous blogger, aka Scobleizer. Figured he was too busy to reply to a small fish like WordBiz. Well, he just got back to me. Thanks Robert! Here is his gem of a tip:

He writes: “Our rule here (at Microsoft)? Don’t be stupid. :-) I call it be smart. But, it comes down to not pissing off your boss… ”

4 days until the election

I’ve made it a policy not to write about things political in this blog. But this election is too important and, like many Americans, I feel too strongly not to shout out. I’ll say it obliquely… If you have any doubts as to who to vote for on Tuesday, Nov. 2nd… read the thoughtful and utterly persuasive article, The Choice, in the current issue of The New Yorker.

58 days till Christmas… holiday ideas for your site from 37signals.com

I ran across this page a while back but just found it again today. Here are dozens of ideas from 37signals to spruce up your Web site, emails and e-commerce strategy before the end of the year online buying splurge (you hope). My favorites: “holidize” your logo” and “holidize” your home page copy. B2C retail oriented but still some good ideas to steal from for B2B sites. In the same vein, I published a mini column in today’s BtoB E-mail Marketer Insight: The end-of-year holidays are just around the corner. Is this good or bad for my e-newsletter? (Scroll down to Ask the Expert.) 37signals publishes a cleverly-titled blog: Signal vs Noise.

The Four Letter Word That Can Get People Excited About Your Products

Let’s see… it starts with a B. An interview with the Scobleizer (aka Robert Scoble) perhaps Microsoft’s most famous in-house blogger. (On a Microsoft page, but useful nonetheless.)

#9 Revising or re-launching your site anytime soon? According to Future Now’s Jeff Eisenberg, you should write EVERY WORD of copy for your new site before you design it. Read it over. Prioritize your information, offers, calls to action: #1, #2, #3, etc. Only then should you talk to a designer. Makes sense although difficult to do. It’s so tempting to start with what you think the various categories of your site should be… About Us, What We Do and so on… Ditch those.

21 gems from Sherpa’s B2B Lead Gen Summit

Wow… I’m jazzed up after two days at MarketingSherpa’s B2B Lead Gen Summit here in Washington DC. It’s one of those conferences where you can’t take notes fast enough to get down the nuggets you want to remember. Great speakers. I’m gonna share a couple dozen of them with you. If you’re in marketing or sales for technology or complex sales of any kind, these will appeal to you. If you’re interested, the West Coast version of this conference is in San Francisco on Nov. 18 - 19. OK, here goes… #1 is from Sherpa’s Anne Holland. She cites Don Crowther’s search marketing tip: capitalize your URL in your Google AdWords text box. So, www.WordBiz.com, not www.wordbiz.com. Yup, that’s the same Don Crowther who’s presenting BlogWrite with me today at 1:00 PM Eastern…

In addition, 45% of respondents say they are unsure of what to write about. 18% question if the content needs to be edited or pre-approved. 15% wonder who would be responsible for the content.
