BlogWrite for CEOs

Remarkable stat courtesy of an HP Small Business Survey released last week. Thanks to CorporateBloggingBlog and Anita Campbell's Small Business Trends blog for the link. Anita makes a key observation: while 10% of small biz owners may be including blogs in their marketing plans, half of all small businesses do not even have a Web site! The takeaway: think of a blog as a kind of Web site. If you need to make a choice? It's a no-brainer. Launch a blog in minutes with a service like TypePad. You'll instantly have a more powerful presence online than if you build a static site from the ground up.

Another interesting fact about the report that 10% of SBO’s are planning blogs is the juxtaposition of your 3/25 post that only 7% of Americans are even reading blogs!

Although I don’t believe in a blog bubble, the recent BusinessWeek article and twice-daily mentions in one’s daily newspaper and the WSJ may be making some SBO’s overly-anxious that they’re missing out.

I do think the percentage of Americans (and others) reading blogs will explode when newsreaders become standard equipment--thank you Safari!--but it may take a while longer for more “popular” browsers to catch up.

Either these small business are being very forward thinking, or their the victim of group think. Only time will tell.

Hi Debbie,

As you know the best reason to have presently is because the search engines love them and your blog can bring in tons of prospects to your web site. It certainly has helped me grow http://www.marketingforsuccess.com to well over a thousand visitors a day as we speak.

I enjoy your blog and look forward to reading more.

Take a look at http://www.marketingforsuccess.com and let me know if you’re interested in marketing my small business marketing manuals or talking about other JV opportunities.

Best,

Charlie Cook
