Edelman is wading - happily - into the new field of blogger relations with its Wal-Mart blogger camp

There's a must-read article in today's NYTimes on the issue of blogger relations: Wal-Mart Enlists Bloggers in PR Campaign. The article talks about Edelman PR's efforts to feed tidbits to a group of bloggers to generate positive coverage for the corporation (which is being criticized by pro-union activists for paying low wages and not offering health benefits).

Lee Odden posted to Business Blog Consulting with an entry titled: Wal-Mart Blog PR Backfires. I don't think that's quite accurate. In fact, the blogger campaign seems to be working quite nicely. And I'm not sure there's anything wrong with it. I responded with this comment (my words are in italics):

So what’s Charlene Li’s ROI on blogging?

Charlene_li It's, er, over 5,000 percent. That's based on her calculation that her $14.95 / month account with TypePad triggered $1 million in new business for Forrester last year. Charlene, who's a principal analyst for Forrester based in San Francisco, blogs here. She gave an excellent speech last week at the NewComm Forum in Palo Alto. I'm always studying other speakers to see what presentation techniques they use. Charlene's speaking style is notable for her warmth and authenticity - along with lots of Forrester stats to chew on. She mentioned her kids several times and also asked the audience for input.

Hangin’ with Robert and Shel at the NewComm Forum

Deb_robert_shelBoy, there's nothing more fun than hangin' with other book authors when you've finished writing... last time I saw Robert Scoble and Shel Israel (co-authors of Naked Conversations) was at the Blog Business Summit in San Francisco in August 2005. Back then I was still more or less in a state of paralysis, having signed the book contract about six weeks earlier. A plethora of blog book authors at NewComm Forum

Six blog book authors were there so I put together this slide for attendees of my panel on corporate blogging case studies featuring Jeremiah Owyang for Hitachi Data Systems and Paul Rosenfeld for Intuit's QuickBooks online.
