Nortel_john_roese The Economist doesn't get it when it comes to CEO blogs (aka senior executive blogs). Blogging Bosses, an article in the Jan. 23, 2007 issue (behind a firewall; apologies), is irritatingly dismissive:

"A few chief executives have started blogs, but fewer have kept up the pace for long, and fewer still seem to have placed all that much trust in the medium...

At Davos, the willingness of bosses to blog may depend on how excited they get about

At Davos, the willingness of bosses to blog may depend on how excited they get about the subjects under discussion. So far it is hard to see what will set pulses racing." - The Economist (Jan. 23, 2007)

Blogging & video interviews galore over at Davos Conversation

Note: I'm pretty sure a handful of CEOs are blogging the WEF over at Davos Conversation. It's…

Bill_marriott_blog Or so it seems after a quick look at his new blog, Marriott on the move. It launched on Jan. 16, 2007 and he’s already got four entries up.

He’s also gotten a total of 186 Comments from readers (as of this writing). And he’s got a nice sense of style (or someone on his staff knows how to write good headlines for his posts.) I like this one: Taking Pilates Classes.

As a yoga practioner myself, I’m pretty darn impressed if Bill Marriott is

Second_life_fortuneA just published Fortune article (quoting IBM CEO Sam Palmisano) makes the point that the 3-D virtual world of Second Life is not "eye candy" and may represent the "next phase of the Internet's evolution."

But as Alex Manchester puts it on the Melcrum blog: "... the waters are definitely still very, very muddy and I still think few senior execs that aren't in the tech industry would go for it [Second Life]." Alex, I agree.

Although... I'm

Although... I'm increasingly convinced that something is very real about this place (I've explored Second Life briefly). For example, the equivalent of US $1 million exchanged hands inside 2L in the past 24 hours.

"Nearly one-third of companies are blogging [note: is this internal or external blogging?]; one-third are podcasting."

Also, "Business is more trusted than media and government in every region of the globe."

I haven't had a chance to read any of these thoroughly but want to get the links up. Sounds like the corporate blogging…

Jordan_big_flag Note: what follows is *not* the typical focus of this blog. I try to avoid combustible topics like politics and religion. If you're not interested in hearing my budding thoughts about Sunnis vs. Shiites, monarchies vs. authoritarian governments and the U.S.'s utterly failed policy in Iraq, then don't read on...

I feel compelled to write, however. It would be inauthentic (in blog parlance) if I failed to mention how powerfully I was affected

I feel compelled to write, however. It would be inauthentic (in blog parlance) if I failed to mention how powerfully I was affected by my first exposure to Islamic culture and practice, and to the realities of  daily life in the Middle East on our recent trip to Egypt and Jordan.

I've put off publishing this entry for several days because I wanted to get it just right (thanks to Chris Heuer for nailing that topic) and sound highly knowledgeable. But that…
