BlogWrite for CEOs

David Meerman Scott and I enjoyed some Mexican food in Reston, VA tonight. David was in town to do one of his New Rules of Marketing seminars based on his eponymous best-selling book. Below we're having a little fun after dinner. I asked him if he thought CEOs might adopt Twitter over blogging, as it's short and sweet. It's not an either or choice between Twitter and blogging, he said. (You can follow David or me on Twitter.)

I think as David says, “Twitter is a tool”. It’s going to take CEOs time to explore and discover what Twitter can do, especially as new tools emerge for the platform.

I think the example of Blue Sky Factory’s CEO engaging in a dialogue via Twitter is an excellent example of good business praxis.

The advantage of Twitter over blogging for CEOs is certainly one of time. What’s more the platform seems to require direct connection. There’s no room for filler. This is excellent when you’re looking to build relationships with potential customers. It’s a way of textually breaking down the barrier between corporation and the customer.

Being the time constrained people that most CEO’s are, I can’t see Twitter ever taking off in the circle; following the stream is far more time intensive than writing and responding to a blog post.
The benefit of a tool like Twitter is brevity, something that any great writer should employ, in a twitter post or other.
