While I was out of town last week the Economist declared blogging not dead exactly... but different. And in October Wired said blogging was so 2004.

So thought I'd run a quick survey: Is Blogging Dead?

Some sectors have moved on to other social media, but many, many others are just catching on to the cool tool that blogging is. They’ve sat back and watched and waited since—yes, 2004—and now they’re finally ready to take the plunge.

I read the comments by Calacanis and they just seemed… colored by the fact that he had such a popular blog. I think if you’re looking for more personal, like he said he enjoyed, it’s still there.

I read some blogs like problogger that have a million comments seconds after a post goes live, but I also read a lot of art blogs, which have a real community feel to them.

Blogging is not dead. Journalism is dead. But blogging is not dead. Twitter is trendy. And useful. Blogging is actually about paragraphs and arguments and organization. These are things many wish to avoid. With Twitter around, I actually think blogging is now BETTER. Since so much stuff that used to become blog posts is now tweeted and in moments gone forever, so the rest of us don’t have to worry about it.

Hi Debbie! I came here via Twitter. Blogging isn’t dead and is actually becoming a much more valid form of media. It is the people’s media. I must admit, bloggers with great ideas are a rare commodity and many are followers rather than leaders - it’s still good and competitive. I’m not a marketing blogger, I’m a growing writer.Building a massive community over the past two years will come in handy when I market my upcoming books.

Nothing is more expressive than the written word!

Blogs are very much alive—and growing by the day.

As you indicate, studies come and go, typically refreshed on even years.

Put another way, if blogs are dead then why are you writing and I commenting?

Not even close.  Sure, they are maturing and changing forms, but they’re not dead.  I tend to agree with Craig—Journalism is taking the hit because of blogging.  For the most part, I think that’s a good thing as the power of many elevates the important stuff…but the power of many can also lead to false news being delivered virally.
