In the "believe it or not" category... Google yesterday deleted its own blog by mistake. But they figured out the problem and it's up and running again.

A good reminder to back up the content of your blog from time to time so all those precious words don't slide into digital oblivion.

What technique do you recommend for backing up blogs, Debbie?

This blog is on TypePad which has a “back up” feature built into it. Actually I think it’s called a “download.”  You download the content of your blog and it creates a giant text file of everything you’ve written, along with comments left by readers. Other blogging services and platforms do something similar. Sorry, don’t have the details on all of them.

If it can happen to Google, it can happen to you

On her blog, Debbie Weil notes that Google accidentally deleted its own blog—but quickly realized the mistake and restored it. The point is: if you’re taking the time to blog, make sure your content is backed up. Yours…

Thanks Debbie. I’m a new typepad user, and I didn’t even know that.

Thanks, too, for taking the time to send me an email letting me know you’d answered my query, with a helpful link direct to your response.

No other blogger has been that considerate.
